Which Small Electric Kitchen Appliances Should You Buy?
The small electric kitchen appliances you buy will be a direct reflection of the types of cuisines you like to cook.
Whether you are professionally trained or completely self taught, the small electric kitchen appliances you purchase will be based not only on the type(s) of cuisine you prepare, but also on your personal preferences and comfort. Although all chefs (professional and amateur alike) will have certain basic tools in common, such as knives, pots, and pans, your preference, and passion, in the kitchen will to a large extent dictate the specialty equipment you purchase. This is because many small electric kitchen appliances are made to perform very specialized tasks.
For example, if you have a passion for Italian cuisine, you will very quickly develop the desire to prepare your own pasta. This will naturally lead you in search of a quality pasta machine. Are you looking for a complete Italian dining experience, than perhaps an espresso and cappuccino machine is also in your future? If you find grinding pignoli nuts and basil leaves with a mortar and pestle too tiring, a food processor will whip up the perfect pesto in no time at all.
Perhaps you fancy yourself a baker. You’ll find that a quality stand mixer can turn out pizza dough, cake batters, and can whip frostings with ease.
If your preference is for Asian or Spanish food, an electric rice cooker is certain to become an essential part of your kitchen.
There are also several small electric kitchen appliances that are appropriate for everyone. The most obvious ones are a microwave oven, a coffee maker, toaster or toaster oven, blender, ice cream maker, and knife sharpener. All of these appliances are useful to everyone and are not task specific to a particular cuisine.
Although there are many who prefer the traditional methods of performing many of these tasks by hand, the major benefit of these small electric kitchen appliances is time. Not only will the task be performed faster, and more consistently, but several appliances (such as bread machines, coffee makers, and rice cookers) are programmable. How many bakers can prepare a loaf of bread while they’re sleeping? Or brew a perfect pot of coffee while in the shower?
So unless you’re planning to audition for Iron Chef, or have an insatiable need, and unlimited budget, to purchase every type of appliance and gadget available, chances are you’ll only actually purchase the one or two small electric kitchen appliances that are you’ll actually need. But determining which small electric kitchen appliance is right for you is a decision only you can make. Take a look at the cookbooks you own and the foods you like to prepare, the answer should be pretty obvious.

| Review by Richard Anderson (Shelburne, VT USA) 2010-08-26 I tried a bread machine a few years ago, with disappointing results. But reading the reviews of this unit, I decided to try again. It 'great! But I found the recipes to use for a half loaf better results than a kilo of bread. Sometimes two pounds bread will rise to the top of the unit, and then decreases. But the home-br... | Review by Charles Jones (San Diego) 2010-05-14 I used two previous models in the bread machine for at least 10 maybe 15 years. Not a problem. Give a loaf of good size, good taste is superb and the car still works fine. He never missed a beat. Do at least two loaves a week. If my car breaks down I want to buy the current model for you. It cost more than a few... Read more Zojirushi BB-CEC20WB Home reviews | ||

| Review by H. WILLARD (USA) 2010-09-03 In short, one of my favorite Breadman Ultimate came out and I spent three hours looking for reviews on bread machines to replace it. (We have five children, so I spend four bread machines at once, on trays today.) I chose this machine because of the postive reviews of them baked with wheat. I had this car for three months... | Review by Jonathan Hale (Belchertown, MA, USA) 2010-08-12 I used this machine only for gluten-free bread. This is a gluten-free environment. At first I thought the machine was defective because when I pressed the start button nothing happens. It turns out that the gluten-free (and some other) setting starts by heating the ingredients before mixing. So far I have with the FA's gluten-free Pantry... | Review by Vlad (USA) 2010-08-27 The bucket is too small. Following a basic recipe for bread from their book, pulp spilled over the edge and made a mess inside the machine, smoke too much. | Review by S. Parrish (USA) 2010-05-18 This machine kicks out a great gluten whole wheat bread. However, it smells like skunk! I noticed when I was outside the box in December, but he thought that oil, which had burned. Five months later still smells like the corner of the kitchen where it is. The bread tastes good, but I was wondering if this could be unhea... Read more Breadman TR875 2-Pound reviews | ||
